Afghan Women Summit 2018

Afghan Women Summit, a women empowerment and women focused summit, designed and initiated by ALPHA to relieve problems and obstacles which are holding women back. AWS was a 5 day summit providing multiple social, economic, diplomatic, art, and environmental opportunities for women from across the country. We are committed to work for women empowerment because empowering women in Afghanistan means engaging and developing %51 of country’s population which results an empowered society and advanced Afghanistan. To evangelical women, from different province of Afghanistan in the summit we provided 100 fully funded scholarships for provincial girls.

Keynotes Speakers

Phase One: Stand With Her (Day 1)

Afghan Women Summit started on 12th of November, 2018. The first phase was the social phase named “Stand With Her”. It was started with speeches from government officials and panels focusing on how Afghanistan government fights for the gender equality in its policies and what opportunities do government provide for afghan girls not only in Kabul but also in all over Afghanistan.

Phase Two: Young Women Entrepreneurs (Day 2)

The second phase of the summit was women’s participation in business named “Young Women Entrepreneurs” where 150 girls from different provinces with different backgrounds came together to work on their social business ideas. Young Women Entrepreneurs was aligned with SDG# 8 and SDG# 4. As of our summit framework, we started the Young Women Entrepreneurs with business talks and success stories of business women, startup advising session including business plan writing, business model canvas, and pitching instructions. At the end of the day, after the pitching sessions, top 3 business models and business ideas were selected for the further contributions from ALPHA which are enlisted below:
1- CLOTHING BAGS: 7 team members
2- PASTRY TRUCK: 10 team members
3- SARBAN: 7 team members

Phase Three: Zan International Model United Nations (Day 3 and 4)

The third phase of the summit was Zan International Model United Nations which offered valuable opportunities to meet and interact with women taking leading roles in international relations, foreign policy issues, legal affairs, global diplomacy and more. The conference was organized by active girls to support women empowerment in a society that not many believe in power of women. Through this conference we provided the atmosphere for 200 girls from different universities and different provinces to raise their voice and share their ideas with others and experience a life of women diplomats within 2 days of ZIMUN in different committees. ZIMUN was organized on 14th and 15th of November at AIHRC Hall (Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission.

Phase Four: Women in Art and Environment (Day 5)

The last day of the summit was for women’s participation in art and environment. In Afghan society, women have been discriminated for centuries, and major institutions have typically failed to support the careers of women in the major fields of art and environment but fortunately through Afghan Women Summit we provided the opportunity for afghan women to showcase their talents in art and environment. We started our 5th day with topic speeches on “Part of women in history of art in Afghanistan” by a lecturer from Fine Arts faculty of Kabul University and “Contributions of Afghan women in the betterment of environment” by a specialist from Kabul Municipality. The we had groups of female painters to support gender equality, groups of female artists designed campaigns in Art and Environment. Then we chose the bests ones, one in art and one in environment for the further contributions by ALPHA.
